My Story
Who would have guessed that my computer job would lead me to a career in chiropractic? I was a computer programmer for a few years before the tension started to build up in my neck and shoulders. I wasn’t doing anything new or different, just typing all day on my keyboard. I tried stretching my neck but that didn’t help for more than a few minutes. I waited to see if my pain would go away. The tightness became a dull pain which escalated into a sharp pain. I could hardly turn my head. My M.D. gave me muscle relaxers and told me to “take them whenever it hurt.” I said, “It hurts all the time.” He said, “Be careful they’re addictive.” The medication made me sleepy and just covered up the problem. I didn’t want rely on addictive medications long term. I wanted to fix the problem.
Someone suggested trying a chiropractor. After taking X-rays and performing an examination, the chiropractor explained to me that the pain I was feeling was caused by an out of place spinal bone (vertebra) in my neck. The chiropractor suggested some adjustments to realign my spine. The pain made me willing to try alternatives. Immediately after the initial adjustment, I was able turn and twist my neck better. My pain levels went way down. It was a stark contrast from just a few minutes before when I sat holding my head in my hands to take the stress off my neck. I was treated twice a week for a few weeks and even though I still had some discomfort, my ability to function normally was starting to return. After combining chiropractic care with a proper ergonomic set up for my computer workstation and some home exercises, I was back to my old self.
I understand the pain and loss of function associated with a spinal misalignment. I also know the power of the chiropractic adjustment to make an incredible difference in your health and in your life. As a doctor, it's so rewarding to help others reduce or eliminate their pain and improve their overall wellness through chiropractic.
